Victoria "Vicky" Louise Martell Medley graduated from Newcomb in 1992. Her mother Louise Kelly Martell, the interviewer, graduated from Newcomb in 1961. Victoria majored in Latin American studies, was an RA, worked in the Newcomb Nursery school, and participated in intramural sports. She also worked with Salvadorian immigrants and refugees to help them gain Temporary Protective Status and to help them learn English. She also discusses cultural and political differences between her native Oregon and New Orleans with respect to the racial climate of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
