Anne Katherine McDonald Milling graduated from Newcomb College in 1962 with a Bachelor of Art degree in European History. She earned an Master of Art in History from Yale University. Milling remains an active civic leader and volunteer in New Orleans. She is known as the founder of an advocacy group called, Women of the Storm, a non-partisan, non-political alliance formed in 2005. Women of the Storm was created to draw attention to the needs of a post-Katrina New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, coastal restoration, and infrastructure needs. Other community organizations that Milling participated in was the YWCA, the Junior League of New Orleans, the New Orleans Town and Gardeners, the Sewerage and Water Board, Loyola University Board of Trustees, the Archbishop's Community Appeal, Council for a Better Louisiana, the Superdome Commissions, United Way, Project Lazarus, the Ryan White Commission, the Longue Vue House and Gardens, the Papal Visit Committee, and the Metropolitan Area Committee.
