Glendy Culligan Pabst graduated from Newcomb College in 1936. While at Newcomb, she was an active member of the Debate team, the Dramatic Club, the Hullabaloo, Alpha Omnicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Sigma, and Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, Glendy Pabst wrote feature articles for the local newspaper The New Orleans Item. She later worked at The Washington Post as the copy editor, assistant editor, and reporter. She was book editor at The Washington Post from 1956-1965. Professionally, Glendy wrote under the name "Glendy Culligan." In 1963, she launched Book Week, a Sunday supplement to The Washington Post. In 1965, she became a freelance writer and reviewer, a contributor to the Saturday Review magazine and a consultant to the Brookings Institution.
