This photograph of Barbara Cahee was taken by Carla Chrisco for the Nola4Women exhibit titled 'The Personal is Political: Portraits of Louisiana Second-Wave Feminists' at Newcomb Archives in March of 2017. This exhibit was part of 'Women of New Orleans: Builders and Rebuilders,' a series of close to 40 exhibits, performances, lectures, and blogs organized by Nola4Women to shine a light on the prominent role of women in New Orleans. Barbara Cahee is a long-time professional counselor of survivors of sexual assault. She worked in the rape crisis center in Lake Charles for thirty-five years, where she focused much of her attention on addressing domestic violence in African American communities and encouraging survivors of all backgrounds to seek counseling and legal services after experiencing sexual trauma.
