Adele Ramos Salzer (b.1950) graduated from Newcomb College in 1940 with a degree in Chemistry. After graduating, Salzer worked in hospital laboratories throughout New Orleans. Salzer married Kenneth W. Salzer and together they raised seven children. Salzer remained active in Newcomb College throughout her life, serving as Newcomb Class Agent for her graduating year, and coordinated the class of 1940's fifty year reunion in 1990. She was also an engaged member of the Newcomb Alumnae Association, and served as corresponding secretary from 1976-1978. In 1984, Salzer initiated the Newcomb College Oral History Project, which has gathered interviews with hundreds of Newcomb alumnae and notable speakers. The Oral History Project was established in honor of Salzer's mother, Frieda Beier Ramos. Salzer's continued engagement with the intellectual life of Newcomb led to the establishment of the Adele Ramos Salzer Lecture and Reading Series, which each year brings a speaker to campus to discuss a variety of topics related to gender. Adele Ramos Salzer is the mother of Adele Frieda Salzer (Newcomb College Class of 1974). In this interview with Gariann Morquelan, Adele Ramos Salzer discusses her time at Newcomb and her life since Newcomb.
