She graduated in 1 Show moreMaria Garcia Daly (1925-2018) was born in Mugardos, La Coruna, Spain. She came to the United States and attended Newcomb College. She graduated in 1948 with a degree in Music and French. While at Newcomb, Maria was involved with Newcomb Glee Club, Operetta, German Club, La Tertulia, French Club, and Newcomb Dance Club. Maria worked at the Spanish Consulate, serving in several capacities and receiving various awards from the Spanish government for her service. After her time at Newcomb, Maria was active in the community, volunteering with many organizations, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, Children of Mary, Tulane University Women's Association, and Tulane University Medical School. She was a founding member of The Spanish Society/ La Sociedad Española, where she served as president for several years. Newcomb alumnae interview. Sfter Newcomb, she served on the Board of Christian Women's Exchange, Orleans Club, and the Newcomb Alumnae Association. She was a memeber of Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ruth EcEnery Stuart Clan, Orleans Club, Le Petit Salon, and the Friday Afternoon Club. In 1992, she was awarded the Newcomb Award for service and loyalty. She was elected president of the Southern Intercollegiate Association of Student Governments in 1942. She was the recipient of the 1909 Award in 1943. While at Newcomb, carter was a member of Chi Omega and, b Show moreCarter Dudley Flemming grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Newcomb College in 1970. While at Newcomb, carter was a member of Chi Omega and, briefly, the Young Republicans. Carter is a member of the Newcomb College Alumnae Association and has served on the Tulane University President's Council and the Tulane University Alumni Association. She was president of the Newcomb College Alumnae Association just after Hurricane Katrina. She also received the Alumni Volunteer Award in 2013. In Alexandria, VA, Carter has spent her life since graduation from Newcomb volunteering and working with philanthropic organizations such as the Campagna Center, the American Red Cross, Alexandria United Way, and the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority. Florence Weiland Schornstein graduated from Newcomb College in 1956 with a degree in English. She served as Director of the New Orleans' Parks Departm Show moreFlorence Weiland Schornstein graduated from Newcomb College in 1956 with a degree in English. She served as Director of the New Orleans' Parks Department for fifteen years, was the first female chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at Touro Infirmary, and was a co-founder of the Women's Leadership Initiative for the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area. She worked with Save Our Schools, She has also served on the steering committee of Success by Six, as an executive member on the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, and on Mayor Ray C. Nagin's transition team after his 2002 election. She has won several awards including 1991 President's Volunteer Award for her Parkway Partner's Program, the Hannah G. Solomon award from the National Council of Jewish Women, the Alexis de Tocqueville Award from United Way, and is listed in Who's Who of American Women and as a Woman Who Dares in the National Jewish Women's Archive. She is a two-time honoree as a New Orleans City Business Woman of the Year. She received her B.A in English from Newcomb College in 1933, and then returned to receive her M.F.A from Newcomb Art School in 1956. Immediately thereafter, she began a career teaching painting in the Newcomb Art Department. She is well known for her sculpture, “The Krewe of Poydras,” located in downtown New Orleans. During her time at Newcomb, Dagmar was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and the President of the Art School Class. She attended Columbia University, and on her return to New Orleans, she began teaching foreign languages at Newcomb. Here she instituted the Department of Italian and authored a number of publications on Louisiana as a French colony, including one called. "Chahta-Ima," a biography of the Jesuit missionary Adrien-Emmanuel Rouquette and his work with the Choctaw Indians. In addition to here work at Newcomb College, Dagmar was a founding member of France-Amérique de la Louisiane and was an active leader in a number of professional, civic, and Catholic organizations. After graduation, she taught English and history at McDonogh No. 28 and McMain schools in New Orleans for 25 years. Much of this interview between Susan Tucker and Cesil Seiferth Kohlman Levin focuses on Fannie Seiferth Ezekiel, Newcomb College class of 1912 and Cesil's aunt.
